THE LAST WEEK OF JUNIOR GOLF IS RESCHEDULED TO THURSDAY, AUGUST 11.
Dear Parents and Junior Golfers,
We welcome you to participate in the 33rd season of the Tyrone Hills Junior Golf program! The first day of league play is Thursday, June 30th. Juniors will continue play on Thursday mornings until the final day of league play - Awards Day - Thursday, July 28th.
Over the years, our junior golf program has become a fun and rewarding experience for hundreds of area juniors. For many youngsters, the program is their introduction to the game, and we encourage that. Golf experience is not necessary to enter the program. Our goal is to teach our junior golfers sportsmanship and help them gain confidence through meeting new friends and improving their skills. If our juniors are willing to listen and give their best, we are confident that they will learn a game that they can enjoy for a lifetime.
Every year we look for ways to improve our program. There has always been some instruction, but the concentration of our program was centered around playing. This year we decided to shift that focus more towards instruction. Juniors will still play a good amount each week, but a portion of the holes they play will be fully dedicated to instruction.
An example of how our program will be formatted this year is our 6-hole division. The first two holes will be dedicated to basic skills needed to improve, from driving the ball to the short game and rules/etiquette. There will also be fun skill challenges for the juniors to improve on their shotmaking/scoring abilities. The juniors will then play a normal round with a parent/guardian walker for the remaining four holes. The 3 and 9-hole division will follow a similar format.
We will also have an 18-hole division for juniors 13 and older who wish to play each week in a more competitive environment. Only golfers with experience in the game are encouraged to play in the 18-hole division. The pairings in this division will be made each week by the Junior Golf Committee. The other divisions will still allow for the juniors to make their own pairings whenever possible. The winners of the boys and girls 18-hole division on Awards Day will be named the 2011 Tyrone Hills Junior Club Champions.
Just as we have in previous years, we rely heavily on parent and guardian volunteers to keep our program as fun and rewarding as possible for the juniors. An adult walker is needed for each 3 and 6-hole divisions that plays. We ask that every parent volunteer to walk at least two rounds over the course of the season. Any parents or guardians that wish to help out in any other ways may contact the golf shop at any time. We’ll have no problem finding a place for you to work helping out the golfers!
